MADRID: Real Madrid have announced their coach, Zinedine Zidane, confirmed positive for COVID-19.
The test results came a day before the La Liga giants visited Alaves in a bid to recover from a humiliating defeat at the Copa del Rey.
“Our coach, Zinedine Zidane tested positive for COVID-19,” the club said in a statement.
Zidane has already undergone a process of isolation this month after having close contact with the virus-positive individual.
He was then confirmed negative and continued his task of guiding the team.
After losing to the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey, Zidane once again faced pressure in an effort to improve Real Madrid’s performance to challenge for the La Liga title when visiting Alaves.
Real assistant coach David Bettoni said Zidane was in good condition after being found positive for the outbreak but was disappointed that he could not be with the players.
“I talked to him and he was in good shape,” Bettoni said.
