DUBAI: Cristiano Ronaldo and Pep Guardiola received the Globe Soccer Award in Dubai and the pair were each named the best players and coaches of the century.
The Juventus striker received the award in a ceremony held near the Armani Hotel yesterday, beating its main challenger, Lionel Messi.
The 35-year-old, who won domestic leagues in Spain, England and Italy as well as Euro 2016 with Portugal, admits he is proud to receive the honor bestowed on the best players between 2001 and 2020.
“Something good won the title,” said Ronaldo, who is also a five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“It is not easy to be the best for a long time. I am very proud but without a great team, coach and club, it is unlikely to happen.”
Ronaldo via Twitter also said: “Most happy with the award tonight! As I celebrate 20 years as a professional footballer, this Player of the Century by Globe Soccer is an honor I receive with joy and pride!”
Guardiola was honored for his managerial career which saw him win leagues in Spain, Germany and England in addition to winning the Champions League twice.
