LONDON: Jose Mourinho praised Dele Alli after Tottenham midfielder helped his side beat Wolfsberger 4-0 in a rematch of the Europa League final 32.
Alli opened the scoring early in the first half and made a pass for Carlos Vinicius’ second goal after the break.
Gareth Bale also completed Alli’s pass for Spurs’ third goal before Vinicius scored his second goal in an 8-1 aggregate victory over the Austrian dwarf club.
The victory gave Mourinho a moment of relief that his best chance to advance to the Champions League next season is to win the Europa League this season.
“I don’t have to talk about that goal because everyone is watching it, the whole world is watching it.
“But for me the show was more important. He (Alli) played very well in all aspects of the game.
“Of course he is not fully fit, but it is normal when you are injured and do not train for a long time.
“But right now, with us playing every three days, 10 games throughout March, having Dele back at this level is something amazing,” Mourinho said.
Progress on the European stage was the antidote for Spurs who lost six times in the last eight appearances of all competitions and slipped to ninth place in the English Premier League.
