ROME: Jose Mourinho does not want himself associated with a position as Newcastle manager now owned by a millionaire from Saudi Arabia.
Steve Bruce still holds the post at St James’ Park but is expected to be terminated in the near future.
Mourinho is among the names linked as Bruce’s replacement, but the AS Roma manager has dismissed speculation of his move to Newcastle.
“As for Newcastle, there is nothing I want to say. The only thing I can say is that I have worked with an important figure in Newcastle history-Sir Bobby Robson.
“And because of that I have a bit of an emotional connection with the city and its fans. Nothing more than that. I’m here now and very happy to be here.
“I’m 100 percent focused with the Roma project, the Friedkin project,” Mourinho said.
Newcastle’s board of directors is likely to find another operator from Portugal – Paulo Fonseca. Frank Lampard and Roberto Martinez have also been linked with the post.
