LONDON: Liverpool will give Arsenal a big test when the team chasing the English Premier League (EPL) title will await the presence of the rising team led by Mikel Arteta, early Sunday morning Malaysian time.
At the same time, the international break offered some relief for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the struggling Manchester United manager will take the team to Watford.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard returns to the EPL and will lead his first game as Aston Villa boss against Brighton.
Since being thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City in August, Arsenal have abruptly returned as the team with the best performance in the EPL.
The defeat sparked a situation where Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was sacked but the criticism was met with eight games unbeaten in the league.
Even the league leaders, Chelsea did not collect points in that period like Arsenal who won six times and drew twice to climb to fifth place in the league.
Aided by the brilliance of England midfielders Emile Smith Rowe and Arteta who changed the fragility of the defense, Arsenal dreamed of returning to the Champions League through the top four.
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned to score and the player’s ‘mood’ added to the team’s confidence.
“I’m the quietest captain in the league, probably in the world!” said Aubameyang. “Actually I’m trying to be an example. I think it’s most important to be a captain.”
Liverpool will pose a serious threat to Arsenal’s resurgence with the Reds desperate to bounce back after a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Ham before the international break.
Four points behind Chelsea – and two ahead of Arsenal – fourth -placed Liverpool can no longer drop points after two games without a win.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to save his job at United and get the tough campaign back on track.
