LIVERPOOL: Liverpool continued their quest for the Premier League title by beating Newcastle United 3-1 which was warmed up by an impressive goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds went down without the COVID-19 positive Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, and were stunned by Jonjo Shelvey’s goal just seven minutes into the game.
However, the former Liverpool player’s goal was balanced by Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah put his side in front before the break.
Alexander-Arnold’s solid shot four minutes from time completed the eighth consecutive victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men who are now just one point behind leaders Manchester City.
“Amazing goal! This player is at another level in scoring technique,” Klopp said of Alexander-Arnold’s goal.
Before the kick -off Klopp urged the public not to be influenced by false information related to vaccinations and immediately get the injection.
Curtis Jones also did not join the Reds squad this time due to the COVID-19 positf. Klopp confirmed his squad has been fully vaccinated and no other players have been infected.
As the number of COVID-19 cases has soared again in England, concerns have arisen that the league may have to be shut down again after 10 Premier League matches have been postponed so far.
