MADRID: Lionel Messi appears to have ignored Barcelona’s second place in La Liga when he broke into a clash between players and coaches in a game against Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
Barcelona are under pressure to defend the title after being tied 2-2 at Celta Vigo, with Real Madrid now two points ahead.
The ‘hot’ situation in the team was evident during the break with Messi not seeming to entertain assistant coach Eder Sarabia trying to talk to him.
Former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas ensured the Spaniard had only one point in goal late in the game after Luis Suarez twice put Barca ahead.
However, Suarez was eliminated in the 10-minute match and replaced by Antoine Griezmann.
According to Marca’s report, the Barcelona squad was involved in a dispute with coach Quique Setien over his decision to remove Suarez and bring in Arthur Melo.
Speaking after the match, Suarez, who was clearly unhappy, said: “I think that’s why the coaches are there, to analyze the situation. We are there to do our best on the field.
“Coming out of the court, we lost sight of something important that we didn’t do the rest of the season,” he said.
