BERLIN: RB Leipzig warmed up for the Champions League clash against Liverpool with a 2-1 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga action early this morning.
Reports of his defense Dayot Upamecano – who was rested during the match – will join Bayern Munich next season will not affect Leipzig’s performance.
Leipzig sports director Markus Kroesche insists Upamecano is rested in preparation for Liverpool in Budapest on Tuesday.
“I’m just focused on the match, I know the player has a purchase clause, but I have a Bundesliga match to think about,” said Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also reportedly keen to hire the French defender.
Leipzig led Augsburg 2-0 in the first half through goals from Dani Olmo and Christopher Nkunku.
Augsburg’s only goal was scored by midfielder Daniel Caligiuri who completed a penalty kick 13 minutes before the end of the game.
Leipzig, who occupy second place in the Bundesliga, now close the gap with leaders Bayern Munich to four points.
Bayern will host Arminia Beilefeld on Monday after beating Mexico Tigres in the Club World Cup final in Qatar yesterday.
