LONDON: Tottenham’s Premier League championship mission has been tarnished after being overtaken by Leicester who beat them 2-0.
Jamie Vardy’s penalty and Toby Alderweireld’s own goal put the Foxes four points behind leaders Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs are six points behind Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Leicester have won six of their last seven games in the Premier League this season and are back on track to repeat the epic success of 2016.
“Our performance is proud and it was a great victory for us.
“We need to start winning at home. The group is still in the process of learning and we are not fully prepared,” said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.
“It was not a good week in terms of results. We should have been here as a team that broke Liverpool’s record at Anfield and started the game with great enthusiasm.
“We started this match with disappointment, but Leicester also lost in the previous match but came down with a positive attitude.
“We lost with our own penalties and goals,” Mourinho said.
