LONDON: Thomas Tuchel has warned Chelsea that the League Cup semi-final against Tottenham is not over after they dominated the first leg with a 2-0 win.
Tuchel’s side are getting closer to the League Cup final since 2019 after beating Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
Kai Havertz put Chelsea ahead before Ben Davies’ own goal put them in a comfortable position before the break.
Although Chelsea failed to add a goal to close out the chances for the London rivals, they will travel to Tottenham on January 12 as an option to the final against either Liverpool or Arsenal.
Liverpool’s first semi-final action, which was supposed to take place today, has been postponed to next week after the spread of COVID-19 in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
This is Chelsea’s first win in three games, following their resurgence when trailing by two goals to tie Liverpool 2-2 last Sunday.
“It was a deserved win, an excellent result as it described the game. We were able to score more goals but it was difficult to beat Tottenham.
“We created a lot of chances. We knew the rematch would be difficult. The competition is not over,” said Tuchel.
Romelu Lukaku is back in the squad but still failed to show real performance. He was dropped from Liverpool action after criticizing Tuchel.
