PARIS: Lionel Messi opened his goal account with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in style when his first goal with the team was enough to sink Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this morning.
Messi scored through the game but Pep Guardiola remained positive despite his side losing 2-0 at the Parc des Princes.
He also praised his former player, describing it as very impossible to restrain him throughout the game.
“‘(Messi’s) goal was fantastic. We knew it was impossible to control Leo for 90 minutes but he also lacked ball control.
“We know where he can run and he can’t be stopped when he’s already close to the penalty box.
“Enduring for 90 minutes is the option we have and praying to get the ball as well as playing our way of the game. We play with our game pattern.
“The striker needs to be more aggressive and say ‘oh, I can score. I have this quality.’ This is what they need to do in the future, “said Guardiola.
Messi, meanwhile, wants more time to adjust in France after making his fourth appearance with PSG since leaving Barcelona last summer.
“I haven’t played for a long time and this is my second game at this stadium. I’m adjusting to a new team. The more we play together, the better the relationship between the attacking lines.
“City are a great team. It’s very important for us to win this game after the draw with Brugge. I’m happy to score,” he said.
