LONDON: Manchester City and Manchester United top the chart of having the most valuable squads with both in excess of £ 1 billion, according to a CIES Football Observatory report.
It’s no surprise to see wealthy English Premier League (EPL) teams top the rankings based on investment and purchase deals over the past season.
City have spent around £ 100 million on Jack Grealish this summer and the squad is valued at £ 1.28 billion.
Pep Guardiola’s squad is slightly ahead of rivals from the same city, Manchester United, who are busy getting new talent for a squad that is already full of expensive players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is still worth around £ 20 million after joining the club from Juventus besides the club also getting Real Madrid center-back Raphael Varane for £ 42 million and Dortmund star Jadon Sancho for about £ 73 million.
United’s overall squad is worth around £ 1.21 billion after their new players joined big names such as Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and the world’s most expensive defender, Harry Maguire.
Completing the podium position in the CIES report is Chelsea, who also made a huge investment by bringing in Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku for a fee of £ 98 million.
The Champions League winners are valued at around £ 808 million which puts them above other big European clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
